SUMMARY

MY PROCESS

NATURE IN THE

WAITING ROOM

WHAT: A waiting room suggestion for the future district nursing clinic in Alunda, that has been designed based on the patient's needs and experiences.

WHY: Since the waiting room is the first thing that a patient will experience at the health center, it is of great importance over how the patient will see their visit. The experience of the waiting room can also affect how the visitor views the quality of the care. Waiting rooms can even lead to the patient feel anxiety, stress, fear, and uncertainty and this can cause an after effect on patients' recovery after their visit.

COLLABORATORS: Ann-Marlene Lundin and Sofia Holmquist who works for the region Uppsala and works closely with developing the district nursing clinic in Alunda.

MENTOR: Annika Viding

By conducting a literature study, had interviews with patients and staff as well as people who were part of the project to produce the clinic and observations, I was able to see needs and the requirements that needed to be met. Then thanks to the sketch and cardboard model of the waiting room, I was able to come up with a concept.

The concept meets the requirements of the room but also the needs of patients, staff, and caregivers. It also solves the problems I discovered during my process. Getting nature into the waiting room as nature is a good way to improve patients' experience, I combined this with having entertainment in the waiting room in the form of informative pictures about Alunda's history.

The furniture in the waiting room has three parts. The red, green, and blue that are there to be suitable for all visitors.

To bring nature into the room, a planting vessel has been placed outside at the height of the windows, so you can see flowers from the inside.

The children's part of the room is there to create a creative environment with murals and a locomotive that allows play and seating.

The lighting in the room has a dimmer effect on the ceiling lamps and reading lamps that is pleasing to the eyes.

The entertainment is pictures of Alunda's history that can be replaced with pictures that patients themselves have found at home to create variation.

To provide more space and change for the patients, there is an outdoor waiting room at the entrance. There you can see when it is your turn and relax.
