SUMMARY

WHAT: A pleasure object that let women explore pleasure and sexuality through a tactile experience.

WHY: The sex toy market is overflowing with phallus shaped objects and most women can’t achieve an orgasm through penetration. By making a product that focus on other erogenous zones other than around nipples and vagina you’re making women experience other places of their body in a new way, and offer diversity in products on the market.

COLLABORATORS: Åsa Rikner, physiotherapist specializing in gynecological pain problems.

MENTOR: Ann-Sofie Hartzén

Erogenous zones in women during masturbation are more than you might think, cheek, neck hips, thighs and abdomen are just as useful as the nipples and vagina.

When I made my prototype, I worked in epoxy to mimic the touch and appearance glass.

THE FINAL CONCEPT

The final product Touch, is a hand-hold self-care object that focus on tactile experiences against the skin. Touch is made out of tempered glass and can either be warmed up by being put in a bowl of warm water or chilled by being put in the refrigerator for 10 minutes. The shape of the product is abstract and organic to help women to approach the use in a spontaneous way and use the toy in a way that fits their own sexuality. Touch has a smooth surface and is very easy to clean, perfect to use with massage oils or on its own.

Sexual health is a part of the overall health, and should be included in the daily self care routine.

To get the smooth feeling and clear surface I sanded and polished the epoxy.

THE PROCESS

During my project I made surveys to ask women about the influence of norms surrounding women’s sexuality. The project has been user-study focused and I have made several interviews both with women who have vestibulodynia and vaginismus, but also professionals who work with similar pain problems affecting women. I worked close with a focus group and they helped me to define the needs and requirements for the product, and they also had a saying in the final design of the product.
